The Side Part (Sidepart) Bubblecut 1963+
Her lips have been re-touched to their original coral color. Side Part Bubbles' lips often fade to a buttery yellow.
The beautiful Side Part Bubblecut is commonly found in Europe. They were not sold in the USA so the side part bubble is highly prized by U.S. collectors. This doll was issued in 1963+ and is found on a straight leg Midge/Barbie body with coral nail paint to match their coral lips (Only coral lips were painted on the sidepart bubblecuts -- Though often the lip paint has faded to a butter yellow color) Side Part Bubblecuts have actual thatched parts (like American Girls, Skippers, etc.) that are made up of two parallel lines of plugs (on the dolls right side of their heads only).
Don't be fooled by dolls whose
hair has simply been combed over to one side -- or by bubblecuts that may have
been rooted with short parallel lines anywhere else on their
heads. Another important and mandatory feature is the curl found above the doll's right ear. You will also find one lone hair plug on the forehead, right where the thatched part begins. Side Part Bubblecuts can be found with: golden blonde, ash blonde, platinum blonde, titian and brunette hair (all with coral lips that often fade to buttery yellow). Unfortunately Side Part Bubblecuts are also typically found with darkened faces. I believe this is due to nicotine exposure.
Notice the difference in hair color between the platinum in the foreground and the golden blonde in the background.
